Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find the most commonly asked questions from the people I trated and I will do my best to answer them.
What will I experience?
This is subjective and varies from person to person. Generally, deep, even profound relaxation can and usually does occur, which can be immensely helpful. Sometimes nothing happens on the surface and at times, you might get angry, agitated, irritated, sad or even impatient.
A few examples that can occur:
-
A 45-minute treatment might seem to only take 10 minutes.
-
You might not "feel much" but when you get off the table you feel strange and continue to do so later in the day.
-
You might have unusually vivid dreams.
-
You might feel an intense sensation of heat coming from a specific direction in the room, even though there is no heating equipment present.
-
You might feel a rush of energy coursing though your body.
-
You might feel an intense wave of calm washing through you like an unstoppable current that leaves you feeling utterly calm and serene, free of tension and worry.
-
An uncontrollable wave of sadness comes and you start crying for no apparent reason.

Any or all of these can happen during sessions and they are all signs that healing is taking place.
Distance Reiki, really?!
Oh yes! Reiki treatment can be carried out even if the practitioner is not in direct contact with you. How, you ask, quite legitimately? As Reiki is everywhere, in everything, all around us (it seems Master Yoda from Star Wars knew a thing or two) there are no barriers to it. Physical space and distance is no problem. Reiki is just as effective from a distance as it is in person. It is of course a lot more convenient, too if travel is an issue.
How long are the sessions & how long is it going to take to heal?
Sessions will last anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour and a half - even if it takes 2 hours, you will not be charged extra.
Just as the length of a piece of string is dependent upon the string itself, the time it takes to heal depends on the condition that needs fixing. For example, if you suffer from chronic headaches, like migraines, a single treatment will be beneficial but may not be enough to eliminate the causes entirely. The time it takes to heal wil depend on the ailment. For some conditions multiple sessions may be needed. This will be discussed at the after the first session.
Reiki always treats the causes, not the symptoms - more on this later...
So, how does it work?
Reiki treats the causes, not the symptoms. Back to the example of a migraine, if you take medication for it, it makes you feel less of the pain (symptom). Reiki goes to the cause of the migraine and treats it at root-level, we are not concerned with the symptoms. If you seek pain relief, you will likely need to take medication but if you want to stop it altogether, Reiki will help you to achieve that. Of course, as a side-effect, pain relief will be likely.
I am in a lot of pain... can you help?
Yes, but... As explained in the previous point, Reiki goes to the root of the issue. What this means in practical terms is, that if you suffer from depression, for example, after the first or second treatment the symptoms might get worse. This is a good sign, because the suppressed emotions causing the condition to persist are being released.
A helpful analogy would be several small balloons (suppressed emotions) held at the bottom of the sea (our subconscious mind) by anchors (our defence mechanisms). In order for the balloons (suppressed emotions) to be released, you will need to cut the ropes. This will result in the balloons come to the surface of the sea (conscious mind). We become conscious of the traumas/experiences that we tried so hard to get rid of by pushing them way down. As they bubble up to the surface, they the bubbles will pop and with that, the symptoms will eventually disappear. This is a process which is a personal journey and can take time.
How is a Reiki session conducted?
Most often, treatments are received lying down on one's back, fully clothed. The practitioner will typically begin the treatment at the head, applying different hand positions and working their way down the body. Then you may be asked to turn over so your back can also be treated. This may not be necessary if the session is done sitting up (some prefer sitting, it's also a lot faster this way).
What can I expect after a session?
You may have heard before: What is within, it is without. What this actually means is that if you are centred, grounded and balanced internally, it will reflect in your outer circumstances.
What happens post-treatment(s) depends on what we are treating. Typically, clients can experience anything from being more relaxed and contented all the way to profound change in life situations. What Reiki does is it realigns/re-centres you from the within, therefore bringing about changes in their lives.
Do I need to believe in it to work?
No. Reiki is not part of a belief-system or religion. Although, its origins can be traced back to Japanese tantric Buddhism, it works whether you are a buddhist, Christian, Hindu or Atheist, etc... It works, because it bypasses the conscious mind and its limitations.
